How to Talk to Clients about Sex & Drugs

Many of our family planning program clients use drugs for fun, which can affect their sexual decision-making.  The purpose of this workshop is to help educators feel more confident having a conversation about drugs and drug use, and how they can affect a client’s sexual health.

Who Should Attend

This workshop is designed for any family planning clinic or program staff responsible for working with clients:

  • Medical Assistants
  • Nurse Practitioners
  • Health Educators
  • Nurses (LVNs and RNs)
  • Community Health Workers
  • Other interested program staff

Program Topics & Objectives

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • List common recreational drugs and why people use them.
  • Discuss the impact of using recreational drugs on sexual decision-making.
  • Demonstrate how to have a practical conversation with a client about steps they can take to reduce their risks.
