I&E announces two exciting new trainings!

Supporting Parent-Child Communication

This training is designed to build the knowledge and skills of healthcare providers to better support and promote parent-child communication in the clinic setting. Helping children move through adolescence to become healthy adults can be a challenge. Health care providers can encourage and support the important role parents play in teen sexual health.

Who Should Attend

Clinicians and Health Educators who provide services in the clinic setting to teens and/or parents of teens.

Training Objectives

At the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to:

• Describe basic developmental stages of adolescence and how they impact parent-teen communication.
• Talk with parents about why parent-teen communication is an important factor in adolescent sexual health.
• Offer tips to parents on how to talk about sexuality with their teens.
• Demonstrate two learning activities to be used with parent groups to build and support parent-teen communication.

Helping Teens Make Healthy Choices, Parent Training

Parenting teens can be tough, especially if it seems they are not listening...but your voice is important. Research shows that teens want guidance, information and support from their parents more than any other source.

This training is designed to help parents talk with their teens around sexuality and sex in a positive and constructive way. This training is a great opportunity for groups of parents to gather and discuss their role in the lives of their teens.

The training can be brought to:

• Business community
• PTA or School communities
• Faith organizations
• Health Care agencies or clinics
• Parent and Foster Parent Clubs or Groups
• Social Service/Youth Service Agencies

Training Objectives

• Increase skill and comfort in having conversations about sexuality
• Look at values around parenting, sexuality, and talking with teens about sexuality
• Reduce the stress associated with parenting by acknowledging it and sharing it with other parents
