Content & Curricula

The program is designed as a seven-hour module based training for a small group – typically 30-40 participants. The training can be tailored to meet your agency’s or organization’s needs.

Training Modules Include:

  • The roles adults play in preventing unintended teen pregnancy
  • Key milestones in adolescent psycho-social and sexual development
  • From risk to resiliency – incorporating youth development when working with teens
  • Effective strategies for talking with teens
  • Viewing contraceptive options through the eyes’ of teens
  • Understanding sexually transmitted diseases
  • Defining abstinence for yourself and discussing it with teens

We can provide continuing education units for:

  • Advanced practice clinicians
  • Health educators
  • Social workers
  • Nurses

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss national and state statistics, possible causes and solutions related to teen pregnancy
  • Describe the characteristics of a sexually-healthy adolescent and identify specific concerns that adolescents may have at various developmental stages
  • Discuss risk-taking norms, resiliency and the importance of youth development programs
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and active listening techniques that will increase comfort when answering difficult questions that teens may ask
  • Define abstinence and practice talking with teens about abstinence as a contraceptive option
  • Describe why contraceptive options may or may not be effective for teens
  • List the most common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) for teens and describe when to refer a teen for health services
